Sanyo 9000 initial hands on, questions, comments, reviews, ect.

I just got the phone today but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask away.

I like color on the sides of the 9000 but they don't come off. I like the feel of the bottom of the flip better than the 5600. The phone feels solid but kinda top heavy. With each new high end Sanyo model they keep improving on the earpiece sound quality. Speakerphone and AAC ringres sound great and can be very loud. When the flip is closed you can push the camera button on the side of the phone when the key guard is off and and launch the camera, camcorder or voice recorder. There are 4 different vibrate patterns that can be set to pretty much anything. Hopefully someone else that I know gets a 9000 so I can try out the voice sms. The low light pictures are improved but still not the greatest. The QVGA is really nice and I'm impressed with EV-DO speeds. Most of the time it loads the page almost instantly.

I think the 9000 is a little smaller in length compared to the 5600. The 9000 seems to fit better than what my 5600 did in a pouch that I have. I just sold my 5600 the other day so I can't compare them.

Are you saying that this new voice SMS will only work if you are sending it to another phone that has the same capability? I thought the Voice SMS was just using your voice to send an SMS message to another SMS capable phone irregardless if the phone has voice SMS? Please tell me that is not what you are saying?

To me they are about the same size vertical and horizontally speaking. The thickness of the 9000 is a hair thinner than the 5600 tho. And the 5600 battery fits the 9000 perfectly.

Okay, here are my thoughts on the 9000. The graphic menu UI is bland at best the icons are semi-animated and lack color unlike what the 5600 has on its graphic UI. There are 3 background colors titan silver, marine blue, high contrast, no orange like the 5600. EVDO is like crazy fast on the phone. I tried the music store app that is built into the phone which gives you 5 free downloads (when you subscribe of course) to a Mini-SD this works great. The tower (signal) icon list like 10 bars, overkill here I think. Ready link is the same as the 5600 not much difference in performance with both phones. You can force digital roaming (Roaming Only option) on the 9000 and it doesn't have analog. I downloaded Opera Mini onto the 9000 and Jesus H. Christ was it fast in page loads. WOW! The 9000 does have a night/dark mode for night pics it works okay better than the 5600 for sure. The download memory is about 15 meg. The cache or heap memory is 4 meg. There are actual looking folder icons in the SMS section...

Played with the voice SMS on the a840 in our store the other day. I sent it to my 5600 and at first nothing happened. Then THE NEXT DAY, I got my test message as a message to call a california number to listen to it. Maybe it is better from one Voice SMS phone to another...But otherwise it sucks.

Voice SMS is basically a voice recording sent to other phones that have the Voice SMS client also. If a voice SMS is sent to a non Voice SMS phone then a prompt gives you an 800 number to call to hear the recording.

I agree... I mean this is how RL works to a point.

I'm not sure what you mean but if it's just the signal meter bars I haven't seen anymore than 5 at one time on mine. It's usally flucuates to 1 to 3 on mine. I have a good signal where I live. Do you hear any noise when you open shut you phone? I hear a noise when I wiggle the flip. It's not a big deal just wish Sanyo would do a better job with there flips.

In other words the signal strength indicator spreads half way across the screen like 10 bars wide to the EVDO indicator. No hinge issues that I have noticed. Mine is solid and no creaking whatsoever.
