Oklahoma City used to be a test market, now we are dead last for everything.

At least you get it eventually. Out here in the wilds of Northern New Jersey we live on the scraps from NYC. 4G or LTE is so far beyond my wildest dreams that I just hope for decent 3G.

Los Angeles in testing by June?

http://www.examiner.com/gadgets-in-l...esting-by-june

Quote:
If you live in Los Angeles and are upset with Sprint’s inconsistent 4G WiMax network, you are in luck. Even though Sprint has announced that their 4G LTE network will officially launch in ten markets by the middle of the year, this column can confirm that—by that time—Los Angeles will be in the testing phase.

So, what does the testing phase mean? Most likely, Sprint users with a 4G LTE phone in Los Angeles will be able to access the network in June. Sprint—as well as other carriers—usually test a network in a city before officially launching it. Sprint started testing their 4G WiMax network in Los Angeles almost five monhs before officially launching it in 2010.

The first 4G LTE phone on Sprint’s network will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. We hear it should be available by March. There is a lot to look forward to this year if you are a sprint subscriber.

Until then, I'll enjoy my Wimax device and hope the network vision build out continues to be successful and on time.

Sprint mentioned that it will start offering updates as work progresses with NV beginning this quarter I believe. Although I would prefer them to be conservative in its estimates, some news on whats going on in your area would be nice.

3G/Wimax coverage is pretty strong in many areas of Los Angeles (my experience at least). I imagine people migrating to LTE will continue to allow WIMAX to work well w/o getting overloaded.

The Wimax coverage is pretty good in Orange county around fullerton, anaheim, costa mesa, etc and I get around 5-7 Mbps on avg. Up near my area in rowland heights its average around 2-5 Mbps.

The 3G near my workplace in orange county is pretty good. I have done some speedtests and I was able to get 1.9 Mbps before. However at my house I get horrible 3G speeds since I live on a hill and its in a pretty deep residential area. I am hoping the network vision towers can provide better antennas for coverage to folks that live on hills as well as banking that Sprint will launch 1 EVDO carrier at 800 Mhz to reach those that are in buildings.

I can hang on until 2013 for a LTE phone because I really want to get a LTE phone that contains Clearwire's frequencies and plus I hate getting 1st generation LTE phones by any carrier.

Thumbs down

It would be nice if Sprint made an announcement to launch LTE in Phoenix. There is no excuse to not have decent coverage here. Horrible 3G speeds; no WiMax whatsoever.

The one good thing about the Phoenix area timetable is when LTE comes, it should get TD-LTE as well since that area was the test bed for Clearwire and the infrastructure is in place.
