You can't beat Otter Box's protection, but unfortunately it adds a ton of bulk to any phone. I can't stand the thought of taking my sleek 9930 and turning it into something that feels like a Palm Treo.

I have one for 9650, and agree, Otterbox Defender isn't built for sleek looks. Reason i love it is for what it does: It protects against water, dust, and drops/bangs. There's a time and place for everything, and for those times you need something to really protect your smartphone/playbook, this is a product that will do it well. Arguably as worthwhile or more worthwhile than TEP in protecting your smartphone.

OtterBox warranty does not, under any circumstance, cover the replacement or cost of any electronic device or personal property inside or outside of the case. TEP covers physical damage and lost/stolen, and there is a per-claim deductible along with a monthly reoccurring fee. But yeah - arguably as worthwhile for sure. Of course - I promote TEP - you know why :-)

i didn't mean otterbox is competition insurance policy to tep. otterbox is better as in an ounce of prevention is worth a lb of cure. no damage, no need for tep. plus no aggravation.

The full casing may be unattractive to some, but it will protect your investment under most circumstances. Otterbox makes a good product. Even going with the Otterbox skin ("commuter series" I think) will not change the look of the phone much but definitely add to its protection significantly.

I've had gel skins that do the job. Right now I have a Speck case and have dropped my phone numerous of times. It has a soft inner lining so maybe that is protecting the phone on impact but I refuse to add a ton of unncessary bulk to my phone. Not trying to sway people away from this but you don't need a rugged case to protect your phone
