Lost

I know that a ringtone or any kind'a tone for a notification, a missed call, voicemail, an email, or a text is no big deal to many 'cos it's just a tone. But boy, this one bothers me for two reasons:

One, I'm just curious to know what happened to my notification tone. Two, I really liked this one. Everytime I got a notification, the tone started off with birds singing and then peaceful, heavenly music started to play, and it would play it over and over again until I checked the notification. Well, it would repeat for about an hour then stop.

So, I decided to find out what the tone was called. So I go to Settings/Sound/Notification Ringtone. I click on them all to listen. There's 8 in all, and none of them were there. Then about a half an hour after looking for its name, I get a notification, and it didn't play that tone, and it hasn't since.

So what the heck happened? Where can it be found? Why did it set itself to this tone ('cos I didn't set it) and then just disappear when looking for its name? It's gotta be somewhere deep or hidden in the phone. Anyone know how I can get it back?

Again, it started off with birds singing and then some peaceful, heavenly music and repeated for a long time. Surely someone, even many have this tone or has heard it. Surely I was not the only one.

Thanks!

Assuming your phone is the Epic 4G, do you have an option int he Sounds menu to restore defaults?

Yes, I have the Epic 4G. Just can't find the avatar in here for it.

No, there is no Restore Defaults in the Sound menu nor in the Notification Ringtone. Maybe that disappeared, too.

Bummer. Guess I have to file this as another unknown problem. At the local Sprint store, they had never heard of such a tone. So I'm like, "How did it get in my phone, play every time I got a notification, and then just disappear as soon as I look for it in the Sound menu, and it not even be in there in the first place?"

This applies to Evo but is going to be similar in your Epic.

Go into your SD card from a PC. Your custom ringtones and notifications should be in media/audio/ringtones and media/audio/notifications respectively. Search your card for audio files and copy them to those folders to use.

The default ones are on the system memory folder /system that you would need root access to copy to and which may have changed with the update.

Thanks! All this sounded like I would be able to find that tone I like and get it back, but I don't know how to do a root access. But everything I did see in the SD was either not it or it was a file (many files) that would not open.

As for a change being made with an update... it has always played that particular notification tone after all updates were made, even the Android update from 2.1 to 2.2.

It's weird how this notification tone that disappeared set itself (to whatever its name was) from the factory tone called Heaven. Oh, well, I don't know. It doesn't make any sense why it can't be easily retrieved just by going into Sound.

I don't know if the title is the same for your phone, but on my optimus, the sound you are looking for is called "Music Voice of the Nature". I use that one for my alarm and it sounds like it is either the same or very similar to what you are looking for. Maybe that will help you locate it in your notifications rings.

I googled about that issue last night, and saw some forums of people actually pissed off that after the update that was the default tone. The only advice given in those forums where on how to remove it, not how to restore it.

If you would root, you could do a titanium backup of your apps, restore the phone back to all defaults, and then root and restore apps with titanium backups. If not, you can always restore phone back to defaults and start again.

I don't know how to root and fear bricking it, but I did restore everything back to default—twice. The tone is gone. And I did not lose the tone after the update. I lost it after looking for the name of it in Sound/Notification Ringtone a couple weeks after the update. It was that easy to lose it, just by looking for it's name, 'cos I had planned on using it as a call tone, too.

Nope, that name is not in my phone. It seems to be a hidden tone, and it's really hidden now—like completely removed from the phone. Just can't figure out why by just looking for the name of the tone in Sound/Notification Ringtone would remove it forever, or until it can be figured out where it went to and how to get it back.
