Evo vs. Evo Shift
Hi,
Would anyone recommend the Evo Shift over the Evo? If yes, why? Is anyone going from the Evo to the Evo Shift? I have had an Evo for six days now, and I'm bringing it back to exchange it for light leakage and the screen LCDs showing at the bottom of the screen (we called it flashlights over on the TV forums). Originally I was going to see if I could find an Evo with a build of 0004. But maybe the Shift is the way to go. I'm just not sure how the two compare to one another. One of the main reasons I would have gone with the Shift is because of the smaller screen. I do not have big hands. so sometimes typing on the keyboard was a bit awkward. But last night, I discovered Swype. Now the larger keyboard no longer seems like a problem. |

Based on specs, it'll seem Shift is a downgrade.
However, I think you'll find the Shift to be a better overall package than the Evo except for the front facing camera. The Adreno 205 graphics processor is actually able to handle 800x480 resolutions as opposed to the 200 which was designed for smaller resolutions but incorporated into the Evo because that was what they had available back then. The new 800Mhz CPU in the Shift will likely overclock higher than the Evo and even at 800Mhz shouldn't be a noticeable slouch. IMO bigger screen or FFC, go with Evo, otherwise, go with Shift. |

Just in terms of benchmarks, I found the following video...
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-shift-4g-benmarks I ran these same tests on my Evo. Here's how it came out for me vs how it came out for the shift in the video. Linpack - Evo: 34, Shift: 33 Neocore - Evo: 28, Shift: 55 Quadrant - Evo: 1173, Shift: 1481 |

They are two different phones that just share a common name.

Yes. Agreed. It is always difficult for me to make these decisions. Drives my wife crazy.

I'm upgrading from Hero and was deciding between Shift and Evo. I went Evo, which is on it's way.
I went and played with the Shift and found the keyboard to small for my bigger hands. Plus, I do like the fact of having 4.3 screen, especially for in-car navigation. I must say that holding the Evo is a tad big in one hand. I'm hoping I get use to it. But the bigger screen will be nice for navigation and reading RSS feeds. |

Well I have two upgrades and I will be getting a shift soon. I have an evo now so I will compare when I get it. The only thing that makes me crazy when new phones come out is waiting on a decent case.

I bought the Shift. I have smaller hands and Shift feels better in the hand, despite it is a little thicker than the Evo. Evo is too wide and holding the phone over long period will give my fingers cramps. I also feel the Shift has a more vibrant screen. The EVO screen looks a little washed out to me. Play the Angry Bird on both and you might see the difference. With the hard keyboard, you also don't lost half the screen view when typing in landscape.

I've been hearing that if you really want or need video chat, then it's the Evo. If you need the keyboard, then get the Shift. From my view, price is the only thing that would keep me from getting the Evo. But I have to say, the size of the Shift if much better IMHO.
