Yea it makes no sense. Samsung did a stupid thing by disabling the voice call function on these tablets (in the US).
For a while I considered buying a Samsung Tab to use as a tablet + phone (using bluetooth headsets). But once I found out they disabled the phone portion, I dropped the idea altogether. I'll just stick to my Evo thank you very much. Not going to waste money on crippled devices that require 2 year contracts to do less than what my Evo can do.

Yes , they are. $500 and should be released by Christmas. Rumor is they are ready to go but are holding them back as a favor to the carriers to let them cash in on early adopters signing contracts. Still overpriced IMHO. I hate Apple but the iPad sounds like a better deal for the same money.

Yes you can just buy it without any data plans. I did, but it was a bit salty. without any plan. $649. And you should be able to use the Hot Spot option on your EVO. I plan on doing just that, but haven't got around to it yet.

Only the GSM (T-Mobile/at&t) versions can be hacked for such a feature.

I bought one on Friday paying full price, with no tablet plan. I added the 29.99 hot spot feature on my EVO and all works great. The nice thing about he hot spot feature is it requires no contract and can be removed at any time. just my .02.
