Contact Syncing issue

I am having an issue syncing my contacts from my phone to Gmail, it works if I go from Gmail to phone but not the other way around. How do I fix this?

I searched a bunch online and tried one solution to import/export from/to the SD card now all my contacts are duplicated, so that is another issue I have. I believe I can fix that from the web interface (remove duplicates) if I can get my syncing to work. Or another way since I have them saved on my SD card (without duplicates) can I just delete all my contacts at once and re-import them from the SD card?

Please help.

Did this batch of contacts come from an old phone?

You may have to re-enter them and save to Google instead of to the phone

When the contacts are copied over, they are saved as "Phone" contacts, not "Google" contacts and thus are not synced. Simplest way is to go to your contacts, click on Menu, then Import/Export, Export to SD card, and choose the Phone contacts. Do this again and choose Import from SD card but import them to Google contacts. They will begin syncing up immediately.

Remember, whenever you add a new contact, make sure that you are choosing them to be a Google contact and not a Phone contact.

Oh, and go into the Contacts menu again and uncheck the Phone contacts for viewing so you do not see duplicates. No need to delete them. But if you want to get rid of the duplicates and have made sure all the contacts are now synced up with Google, I believe you can go into the main Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, choose All, Contacts Storage, and click on Clear Data. The contacts will be wiped out and then redownloaded from Gmail.

Duffman,

Worked perfectly thanks.

Had a program that would email my file off my SD card of contacts, imported into google, and then did what you said to remove all the existing ones.

THANKS!
