I read in another thread that a couple people said that around mid october sprint will no longer require you to change to ED plan if you want new phones. i.e evo or epic. I so hope this is true as we are due for upgrade then and I want the epic.

Just SERO customers who can "buy up" to SERO premium and then "buy up" again to 4G devices.

$30 SERO will become $50 SERO with an EVO or Epic. It will be $40 with other "ED" plan required devices.

Yeah, that won't ever happen. They will continue to gouge customers' wallets for as long as they can, and considering that customers are more than willing to pay, that will be forever.

I personally don't think the ED plans are bad at all especially if you want to use your phones to their full capacity... anywhere else would be a whole lot more in price.

They're a ripoff if you don't use all the services.

Of course, for me, it's even more of a ripoff because I pay the cost of on ED line every month, but I have 3 lines. That part isn't a big deal, though. I realize that inflation has occurred and prices have gone up. I just don't want to pay for a bunch of junk I won't ever use. At least other companies give customers options...with Sprint it's everything or nothing.

They do give you options, you can get a talk only plan, you can get a messaging plan or you can get an ED plan. With the ED plan the only part of it that I see not being used that much is probably the navigation. Like everyone else has said in other threads though the ED plan is still typically, not always, cheaper than getting a plan that has talk, text and web from another provider. The rest of the stuff they include as far as services is all bloatware that every other provider adds onto their phones also.

i dont understand why people always say Sprint doesnt offer choices.

I was talking more for a family. I have two lines that don't use data or text messages. There's no new Sprint plan that would allow me to get data on one line and not on others. I suppose I could get a single ED plan and then a family talk plan for the other two lines, but I think it would be cheaper to just get a shared ED plan.

Let's not turn this into a debate thread about Sprint's options, though.

The problem is, you can not choose a "talk" shared plan with more than 700 minutes. For more than 700 minutes you have to have EM or ED currently.

ED plans are great for those with PDA's compared to other carriers. The problem becomes with larger shared plans that only one wants data / messaging.

What they ought to do is have hybrid plans on share plans. Base plan of Talk, 9.99 for add-a-lines with talk only, 14.99 for add a lines with talk and text, 19.99 for add a lines with data. How hard is that?

judging from the amount of mistakes i have seen my sprint employees make, it is very hard.

i'm glad these phones will be available for $40.

My suggestion is Talk 700, 1500, 3000 as well as EM and ED versions with the same minutes.

Code the system that unless the plan is "everything data" then a data charge occurs. Data charge is $20 for "everything messaging" and $30 for "talk" on a per line basis. The $30 "talk" option would give you a single like "everything data" hybrid.

Activation could not happen unless the data plan add on was accepted, and could not be removed without removing the device.

Now that would be something I would be happy with, although then you'd still have to pay for 2 lines with everything on them.

What would be nice is if they took the individual plans and then just made them into family plans as customers needed them. They could charge more than $20 for an AAP with all the features if they wanted. For example, take the 900 minute $90 ED plan. If there's only one line, the person pays $90. If they want to add a line with only talk, add $10. Add $15 or $20 if they want texting on the second line as well. Add $30 if they want data also. That way, if you have 2 lines, but only one needs data and texts, you don't have to pay $130 for two lines that have every feature offered. You pay for the one line that needs those features, plus a fee for the extra line to share the first line's minutes.
