Touch internet access vs *other* touch devices

To The Point:

Since the Sprint Touch only has the IE mobile, no wi-fi, and I am not in the Mobile Broadband Area, will internet browsing from the Sprint Touch be just like internet browsing from my A900 on a bigger touch screen?

The Background:

I am up for a new phone (getting the $150 off), and I have been looking at the Touch. I read that it doesn't have wi-fi, and I don't understand it. I searched on people responses to it, and most say the never would use it anyways, not confirmation that it was removed and will never be available.

The reason wi-fi is appealing to me is because I got a good deal on a iPod Touch that I was just going to flip and double my money. That is until I played with it. Wow. Unbelievable device. Now I can see why the iPhone is the sh...

I want a cell phone that I can go on the internet and look something up on eBay, or watch my fantasy team nfl.com, like I do on my PC. I didn't think it could be done with a cell until I played with the iPod Touch. Plus, I get wi-fi almost any where I am at. What I don't get is Sprint Mobile Broadband Coverage anywhere I am at (it's about 5 miles from my neck ov da woods). I like Sprint, they have never done me wrong in 7+ years, and I get cell coverage where ever I am at (minus the bunker I work in).

I see the IE sucks, but getting Opera will solve that. Still doesn't fix my no wi-fi/mobile broadband issue.

well yes and no... to the extent that your browsing is bounded by your Internet connection, yes the Touch will be limited by your Vision (non-EVDO) bandwidth just like on the A900. However, the Touch has many more options for web browsers, PIE being among the least interesting. Opera Mini would work on both the Touch and the A900 and, because of the larger touch screen, would certainly be more fun on the Touch. Since it is proxy-based, it would also be better optimized to take advantage of the low Vision bandwidth. The Touch CPU being faster than the A900 CPU will also certainly help. There are other browsers that the Touch can run, the two most notable are Opera Mobile/WM and Picsel. Opera/WM is similar to PIE, but considerably better. It should handle ebay transactions very well, as well as any downloading tasks. All of this should be substantially better than anything on the A900. Picsel is another very compelling browser. It is not generally available and is an unfinished product so far, but it offers the browsing experience on the Touch (WM) that is most like Safari on the iPhone: touch-based, with continuous zooming it and out, smooth panning with touch, etc.

So between an A900 and the Touch, even with only Vision, I would still prefer the Touch by a mile, never mind all the other stuff the Touch can do that the A900 can't...

So you have WiFi coverage but no Sprint coverage? What about AT&T coverage? If you have that, you may want to get an iPhone. Otherwise, you may want to just get an iPod Touch which has WiFi and the iPhone's browser, but doesn't give you phone functionality (or, on the plus side, require you to sign onto a 2-year contract).

You cannot conpare the A900 internet browsing with the Touch for the follwoing reasons:

the Touch is EVDO Rev A vs the A900 that is Rev O. THe is a big speed advantage with the Touch over teh A900.

The Touch can do both WAP and HTML web browsing having rarely no limitations,. You can also add other webbrowsers such a Opera and soon to come Deep Fish. The A900 only can do WAP browsing to sites that only support WAP and has lots of llimitations

Hehehe..yup its an awesome phone to bad you cant customize it like the TOuch and it is not compatible with 3rd party apps to increase the fun like you can with the Touch.

The internet connection on the Touch is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy faster than the IPhone Edge turtle connection. You can do treaming Video and Streaming music on the Touch but you cant do it on the IPhone.

Technically whatever the IPhone can do the Touch can do with the exception of WiFi.

Anyone with a Touch would be able to do that fast and more affectively than with the IPhone (YPhone)

or watch my fantasy team nfl.com,
Heheh.. count the IPhone out on this cause it cant do Streaming Video.

like I do on my PC.
and just to let you know the IPhone will not work with Windows Vista, so kiss all your contacts apps etc etc good by when you IPhone goes bye bye. Even if you havent upgraded to Vista yet soon soon soon you will.

I live not far from and work downtown Green Bay, WI, but you have to live close to Lambeau Field (about a mile or 2, according to the coverage map).

Yeah, that sucks. Out in NE Wisconsin, there no EVDO coverage like there is in the Miliwaukee area.

There is now a micro sd wifi card that should work in the touch.
Google it...
