Do cases cause overheating, reduced battery performance?

Have a Motorola Photon, which doesn't tend to get too hot. I keep it in a Trident Aegis case most of the time, though I do have a Boxwave TPU case I use from time to time. Since the weather got a lot hotter, I have noticed that my phone seems to run hotter and my battery life is greatly diminished. Is it possible that wrapping your phone in silicone and polycarbonate all the time can do harm?

I keep data off most of the time because it makes it run even hotter and eats battery in less than half the time.

Thanks!

you are absolutely correct to worry about heat. a hot battery is indeed bad. and heat is bad for the device as well. It sounds like your common sense is telling you to try to keep the battery and device cooler, so follow that instinct because it is correct...

hotter the phone the more battery power you use. Heat is a batteries worst enemy. One reason they say to keep a battery cool. Heat allows energy to escape (in very basic terms of course) if your phone is over heating with a case on then your battery performance will suffer I suggest removing it or try it on another phone it could be the phone but always best to keep your phone as cool as possible.

I appreciate the feedback. It's good to know I am on the right track. Now here lies the rub... I am very careful with my phone, but all it will take is one mistep, like the guy who accidentally, knocked it out of my hands and to the concrete at a gathering a few weeks ago. If not for my Tridend Aegis case, I would have been left with a badly dinged up phone or out $100 for a "POS" refurb.

So, what's the trick? How do I protect my phone with a case and NOT overheat it when the outdoor temps go well over 80 degrees? If I can't, how do I guarantee against damaging drops? The answer isn't "don't drop it". There has to be a protective case that guarantees against overheating.

Thanks!
