For my first post I'd like to thank everyone here. I've read this forum on and off the past few years, and the insight from the users has helped me transition from poor service to Sprint service :-) THANK YOU.
I'm hoping this forum can help me out again, this time with my internal debate from moving away from an EVO 4g to another phone on Verizon or possible AT&T... or possibly not. Here is my question: Are there any current Sprint phones which have a stronger radio than the EVO. Currently I work in a warehouse environment and the EVO fails to get reception. However, my first Sprint phones were a Tour and a Bold, both were able to get texts and post to OKCupid and Wordpress. I would like to stick with Android, but if the iPhone has a better antenna so be it. I'd prefer to stay way from Blackberry's but if they have a far superior antenna for at least texting purposes, then so be it I guess. My ideal scenario is being able to text and post to Facebook and OKCupid while at my desk - currently only the employees with Verizon or AT&T or Tmobile can do so, no such luck with Sprint. I appreciate any and all feedback - thanks everyone :-) -Quick |

Can anyone help me with this situation?
Are the internal radios for internet/data/cellular based on components of which the specs I can compare when making my next purchase? This new phone will be bought in about 6 days, so any insight will be greatly appreciated. My contract is up in December 2012, but I can't go that much longer without coverage at work, and other than no text/data connection while at work I don't have a reason to leave Sprint - I'd like to stay if possible I just need a phone that can be used as a phone where I work. I hope someone chimes in here, because I'm rather lost at this point and would hate to leave Sprint and find myself in a worse scenario. -Quick |

The iphone is not fully optimized on Sprint yet and does not have a stronger antenna.
You are in a warehouse environement and should expect the same issue no matter what, because warehouses are full of concrete walls and metal super structure that block radio signals. If you actually need a new phone, because yours is failing, there are several really good ones, but the Samsung Galaxy II and the Motorola Photon are probably the two strongest contenders. At 1.2ghz dual core, 8mp camera, 10 hour talk time, and $49 online at Sprint or Best Buy, for a new or renewed contract, I think the Photon is the best choice. If your phone works fine outside of the warehouse, keep it and wait to see what happens with 4g LTE in June/July timeframe. But no phone will get better reception in a warehouse. The only possibility is, if you call customer service, tell them you are getting horrible service at your office (don't mention the warehouse part) , that you are ready to give up and go with a different service provider and ask if they can give you a free Airrave access point. The Airrave gets plugged into your network router, near a window, with the antenna wire running to the window, and gives you VO/IP while in the warehouse. If that doesn't help, nothing will. Hope this helps! |

Does the Blackberry Tour/Bold have stronger radios or built from radio-friendly materials compared to the EVO? In the warehous the Blackberrys allowed me to text/call/use internet... the EVO not at all. Unfortunately my decision needs to be made by the end of next Friday. If there are no other responses from thia forumI will ask a Sprint rep in person and base myove on that info. I hesitate going back to Blackberrys due to OS complications. -Quick |

Many of the smart phones have similar issues. Some of them DO have better radios/antennas that others. My dumb Sanyo phones could make and take calls where my Palm and TP2 phones claim "no service". The old Sanyo dumb phones were known to have good radios in them.
BTW: the "rave" does NOT "sit by a window", its a "cell phone tower" that uses YOUR internet connection for back haul. Its only good for < 50' or so. (its amazing how cool your cell phone is after a long conversation when the 'tower' is within spitting distance from where you are sitting)

The Photon has gotten rave reviews for radio reception performance, but the warehouse scenario will affect any phone. You have a hard decision, too bad you don't have time to go the prepaid route and give Verizon or AT&T service a test drive. I'd be curious if you would get any better performance from them? Let us know how it turns out.

I've decided to stay with Sprint, unless the Galaxy Note can sway me. I've found work arounds to my issues at work, and to be honest, I don't want to leave the customer service that I'm getting with Sprint (on Glisan and 122nd). I feel it's better to put up with some quirks in reception rather than spend a lot of money jumping ship to an unknown level of customer service quality. Like I said, only if the Galaxy Note can REALLY sway me, I'll be fulfilling my contract with Sprint. Thanks you guys for repsonding. I really do appreciate it :-) -Quick |
