Well, I've had enough of the Windows Phone 7 operating system and the HTC Arrive. I was a Windows Mobile user since my iPAQ running Windows CE (I think) and Microsoft has totally screwed up the operation system from where it once was. I know some fanboys will argue regardless, but I'm tired of trying to make this phone work out for me.
1. Having to use Zune for the transfer of data is absolutely ridiculous! Why did Microsoft have to do this? The old drag and drop method from window to window worked great! I can't even get my excel or word files over without e-mailing them to myself or uploading them to a sky drive (haven't tried, sky drive has been down the last few days). 2. HTC hardware: auto-tilt screen, no 4G, no removable storage card, low volume output on music and movies/videos using my headphones. 3. Outlook connectivity problems. Windows Phone 7 requires companies using self-signed certificates to produce said certificates with all keys in order to have the phone connect to Microsoft Exchange Server ActiveSync! No problems connecting the iPhone or Android devices at my company, just my Windows Phone! Overall, I would have dealt with #2 and #3 but being forced to use a program like Zune to do what I could do on my own previously, is like communism. Do it our way or not at all does not fly with me. If I wanted an iPhone, I would have purchased an iPhone! I know it is a new OS, but Microsoft should have known better than to release this OS in such a competitive market. I loved the sleek design and responsiveness of the start screen as well as other options on the phone, but the lack of flexibility or customization has just pushed me over to Android. Thanks to those on this forum that helped me along the way to attempt to work with my phone. I ordered my Epic 4G today. I know it will have it's own problems, but they won't be "Zune" or data transfer which became my number one gripe after 2 weeks of use. Maybe Windows Phone will evolve into a more user-friendly customizable operating system and at least let me drag and drop files from my computer into the phone. Maybe then I'll return. Windows Phone 7 made me an Android user. Thanks Microsoft. |

2nd.. I know talk with several people who have used Droid and like Windows Phone 7 better.. 3rd. HTC make some of the best Hardware out there they have the most bought phones right now.. They make both Windows Phone 7 devices and Droid. Plus Nokia will be coming out with some new devices as well.. 4th. File transfer I think could be better besides having to go through Zune I think this is something that they will address overtime.. Overall this is a new OS and just like with any new OS folks are going to complain about having to learn how to use it.. There are somethings that I think they will improve on over the next couple of updates.. I think in the long run the Windows Phone 7 OS is great HTC Nokia are probably the top 2 phone Manufactures seem to think so as well... Folks are going to have to learn how to use the devices just like anything else.. Wish you luck with your Droid... Another note I think one thing they will add or should in the near future is a Windows Explore so those who do allot of file transfers can easily see their files. But with MIX 2011 going on this week maybe they will bring this up but my guess is we will see something like it.. But as far as how the files will play that always depends on how they were generated.. Last edited by Slipcord; 04-12-2011 at 03:18 PM. |

It's Operating System
Also they can't screw up the previous OS when the new one was made from scratch. Some of of love it as is but are willing to ride the Arrive and the Current WP7 iteration and watch it grow. The Arrive IMO is a classy device and WP7 suits it well.

It's "us"
And I am all for Windows Phone 7 as long as they fix the data transfer and allow 3rd party Video and music listening applications. I can't stand being forced to use Zune to transfer media files. I can't even transfer my excel or word documents from my desktop without the skydrive or e-mail.Look, I love the sleek look and interface of WP7, but until they fix the data transfer issue, I won't be coming back. IF and when they allow users NOT to use iTunes, errrr Zune for music and video, I will return, but until then, I will use an android device with all the customizing options.... |

Although I love my phone I do understand the point of being forced to use Zune (even though I like Zune). I dislike restrictions.
One of the things that I hate about the iPhone is that they have to use iTunes. In WM it was a positive for me that I was not tied down to anything to put whatever I wanted in my phone. |

Not sure why using "Zune" is such a bother for you guys, it is easy. I spent a while getting all the metadata correct for the songs/albums on my PC, then told it to transfer it on over. On top of transferring the songs over, Zune also adds information about the artists (a full bio), so while listening to the artist you can always scroll over and see band/artist bios etc. Set Zune to auto sync, and whenever you add new music to your collection at home and plug in your phone you don't even have to "drag and drop" anything to your phone, it will auto sync.
Excel/Word files would be a pain though, so I understand that. |
